DAVE Webb is looking forward to his third play-off campaign in four years safe in the knowledge that he won’t have to take Swindon Supermarine to Merthyr Town.

In 2013 and 2014, Webb and his Marine players headed across the border in the post-season party hoping to keep their promotion to the Premier Division dreams alive.

However, on both occasions, the Martyrs were victorious and have since booked their place in the level above.

Now in 10 days time - Marine still have two games of their Division One South and West campaign remaining starting tomorrow with a trip to AFC Totton - Webb and his charges get their chance once again to keep the dream alive.

Although mathematically the title is not out their grasp, Webb is only focused on winning the final two games to carry that form into the play-offs after their place was confirmed on Wednesday night following Evesham United’s 2-1 defeat at Bishops Cleeve.

“It is fantastic that we are in the play-offs,” said Webb. “I’m so pleased for everyone at the club. To achieve that for the third time in four years is a massive effort from everyone.”

With Merthyr now gone, Webb believes that this year’s play-off campaign for all teams involved will be more evenly matched.

“Merthyr had an exceptional side,” the South Marston side boss said. “This year, with the exception of (leaders) Cinderford (Town), no-one had beaten us twice.

“Of course, it would be great if we could get a home tie for the semi-final, but the aim is to get 89 points because even if you finish fourth you could still get home advantage in the final.”

With a fully-fit squad of 20 to choose from for the trip to Totton, Webb is hoping that his experienced players will be able to help the younger ones in the play-off campaign.

“There are still a few players here who played in the play-offs a couple of years ago,” the Marine manager said.

“They will need to help the younger lads because the play-offs are unique in the fact you go from playing in front of a couple of hundred supporters to more than a 1,000.”

After a disappointing campaign last term, Webb said that he always believed that the team would make the end of season party this time.

“The chairman Jez Webb has been great,” Webb said. “We sat down in the summer and we talked about competitive budgets and he has backed me.

“Now we have got the Swindome at the club we have great facilities. Before when we wanted to speak to a player about coming we’d go to a hotel, now we bring them to the ground and that is a big plus.”
