FAIRFORD Town were able to put the disappointment of missing out on the league title behind them as they lifted the Bluefin Sport Supplementary Cup on Saturday.

Having lead the Hellenic League Division One West table for most of the season, Gareth Davies’ side saw their advantage at the summit wiped away in the final weeks to leave them fourth.

However, they dominated the final as they put five past their opponents without reply, with Jack Ellis hitting a hat-trick to add to a brace from Danny Hale as Didcot finished the game with 10 men.

“They were superb,” said Davies.

“From minute one to minute 90 I don’t really think they (Didcot) troubled us at all.

“They exceeded what was asked of them and they came out of the traps and got on top early on.

“When we scored the first goal it sort of relaxed everybody and it was probably our most complete performance of the season.

“Everybody had a good game and the lads who came off the bench all made an impact.

“Sometimes that week off gives you a chance to recharge your batteries and we trained on the Wednesday and looked quite sharp and then on Saturday we played some decent stuff and scored some really good goals.

“Finishing fourth after being top for so long was tough to swallow but the cup was ideal for them because they deserved something from the game.”

After taking a well-earned holiday, Davies will turn his attentions to next season and will look to add to his squad to ensure similar success next term.

“We will take a couple of weeks off and then the hard work starts again,” he added.

“We obviously want to keep as many of this side as we have and in the summer we will add a bit more quality to it as well.

“We have got targets that we want to speak to in the summer and we won’t stand still.

“We’ll look to add to the side and hopefully, depending on where we are next year, we will have another good side.”
