SWINDON Sunday League giants Greyhound will head into the dog days of summer with another hearty haul of silverware to savour after they sealed a second successive league and cup double.

Division One title-winners for a second season, Greyhound ensured that they also retained the Knockout Cup with a fine 4-0 victory over AFC Gas at Royal Wootton Bassett Town’s Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground on Sunday.

Greyhound were unable to remain county kings as they were beaten in the final of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup by FC Walcot last month but manager Dave Hawkins is safe in the knowledge that his team’s double-winning exploits this term are nothing to sniff at.

“It’s been another good season for us and we’re looking forward to forgetting about it for a little while now,” said the Greyhound boss.

“It’s a shame we didn’t win the Wilts Cup but we didn’t turn up on the day and were deservedly beat.

“On Sunday, it was our best performance in a while. In the last few weeks, we’ve dropped off a little bit and it’s something that we’ve had a chat about.

“The surface at Bassett was fantastic – it’s the best in the area – and that really helped us.

“We scored once and thought that we needed another goal, but then we got two more in the space of five minutes and from then on, Gas were chasing the game to try and do something.”

Nick Stanley and Rory Sproule notched before Steve May rounded off an impressive team move to put Greyhound 3-0 up at the break, with Dan Drewett rounding things off in the second period.

Elsewhere, Division Four title-chasers Cricklade MTA, who are second, thrashed Marlborough Town Casuals 6-1 whilst third-placed Croft Junior beat Purton Westbrook 4-1.

Coleshill Youth also lifted themselves from the foot of the table with a 7-3 triumph over Nationwide.

In Division Three, Woodlands Edge boosted their chances of a top-three finish by beating Rudis 4-1, DH Fitness hammered AFC Wedge 6-1 and Stratton Saints won a 10-goal thriller as they bested Smart Movers 6-4.
