SWINDON Supermarine put in a fine performance to claim the win they needed over their rivals to secure runners-up spot in Under 12 Division One when they defeated FC Calne 3-1 in the final game of the season.

The home side took control from the kick off and never looked back as they fought for the win they needed.

In the early exchanges, Max Townsend had a hat-trick of chances to put the South Marston side in the lead, the more notable chance coming when he had a one on one with the visiting keeper.

Joah Hall saw his volley from outside the area saved after he didn’t quite connect with his shot.

It was only a matter of time before the home side got their noses in front and it came when Luke Legg poked home after a goal mouth scramble following a long throw from Josh Godwin to give Marine a half-time lead.

Swindon carried on from where they left after the interval as they piled the pressure on their visitors.

Legg saw his long range free-kick go inches over the bar before Godwin shot straight at the 'keeper.

Townsend found himself again one-on-one with the visiting goalkeeper but again it was the keeper came out on top.

Harry Johnson saw a long range shot go inches over and minutes later another shot went inches over the bar from Godwin. Marine were awarded a penalty after a handball incident and Hall calmly slotted home to put the hosts two goals to the good. Less than a minute later Townsend scored what was possibly the goal of the season when he hit a screaming shot from distance to give Supermarine 3-0 lead.

The visitors pulled a goal back but it wasn’t to dampen the hosts spirits as they claimed the victory.
