CHRIS Taylor admits it came as quite a shock to be let go from Swindon Supermarine ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Taylor, who has made 313 appearances for Marine, had been told that he would be in manager Dave Webb’s plans for the coming campaign and that his future at the club was sorted.

However, a budget reduction has since seen midfielder Taylor told that the club were unable to make him an offer for next season ‘without insulting’ the 30-year-old.

He said: “I was told the budget was going to be cut but that my money was going to be safe, and then I found out last week that my money wasn’t safe and they couldn’t offer me a deal without insulting me.

“It was quite a surprise, I thought it was all sorted out.”

Since learning he will be leaving the Webb’s Wood Stadium, Taylor has already had a number of offers from other clubs, one of which is from a team in the league above.

“I have had an offer from a team above Supermarine and a few others, so I have some options. I was happy to stay. It’s a shame, I thought the club was looking to move forward,” said Taylor.

“It was a bit of a shock but it’s just one of those things. It’s disappointing but I am looking forward to a new challenge.”

The former Swindon Town player, who first signed for Marine 10 years ago, believed he still had plenty to offer from a playing perspective, stating he was ‘their best player’.

Despite the disappointment, Taylor has no hard feelings towards the club and thanked the fans for the support he’s received.

He said: “I have no hard feelings, money dictates everything at this level. I have no hard feelings with the manager, it’s just one of those things.

“I would like to thank the fans and all the people at the club who have helped me I had a great time and wish them all the best and hope they have a good season. If I get the time, I might pop down some time.”
