MANAGER Michael McNally would love to see Shrivenham pick up where they left off last season but concedes that’s easier said than done.

After gravely struggling through the first half of their 2015-16 campaign, Shrivvy turned the corner and secured an eighth-placed finish, losing just three of their last 13 league games.

McNally, who has signed former Highworth Town strikers Levi Cox and Lance Lewis, as well as defender Paul Carson, from Purton, is hoping for a more profitable start to the new season but isn’t getting ahead of himself.

“Before Christmas, we’d only won a handful of matches, so if we win our first one, we’ll be on our way to doing better than last season,” said the Shrivvy boss.

“After Christmas, we were probably one of the form teams in the league and we didn’t lose many games.

“You’d love to have momentum but that’s hard because it is a brand new season.”

“Last season, I started from scratch and had to get together a new side, so if you look at where we are now to where we were last season, we’re in a much, much better position.

“Everyone has stayed from last season and I’ve got a squad of 17 or 18 that all want to play, so I’ve got a bit of a headache when it comes to picking a team for the first game of the season.”
