A FIRIST half strike from Joe Selmen was enough to ensure that Swindon Supermarine maintained their perfect start to the season.

Supermarine took control of the game from the off and were only the width of the post from taking the lead in the 7th minute when Selmen saw his effort from just inside the box come back off the woodwork.

The hosts had a big shout for a penalty in the 20th minute when Connor Waldon’s shot appeared to be blocked by the arms of the Totton defender on the line, but none of the officials we moved.

The woodwork was rattled again less than five minutes later when Bradley Gray hit a speculative shot on the turn from distance but it came back off the crossbar.

Marine deservedly took the lead five minutes before the break when Selmen picked the pocket of Curtis Angell before cutting across the body of Pat Wilson to drive into the box and beat Steve Mowthorpe.

Mowthorpe was called into action again moments before half time when he did well to get back and tip over the bar Bradley Hooper’s effort from range.

Dave Webb’s side continued the second half in the same vein and Mawthorne had to pull off a good save Callum Parsons before Ian Oliver narrowly avoided turning the rebound into his own net.

The visitors grew into the game and Connor Johns had to pull off a fine save in the 65th minute to keep the hosts ahead after Dan Munday was played in one-on-one, but the Marine stopper stayed big to deny the Totton striker.

A fine last-ditch challenge from Sam Roberts in the 73rd minute denied Waldon a fourth goal of the season when he looked through on goal in the box.

The frame of Mowthorpe’s goal was rattled for a third time 10 minutes from the end when substitute Ryan O’Hara let fly from outside the box and a deflection took the ball onto the outside of the post.

Totton mounted a late surge but Marine were able to hold on to record their second win in as many games.
