HIGHWORTH Town are back in action this weekend when they travel to Thame United with the hope of registering their first league win of the new season.

A last-gasp goal from Tuffley Rovers meant the visitors didn’t get the start they desired in Gloucestershire last Tuesday, but Jeff Roberts’ side took the opportunity of redemption when the FA Cup preliminary round rolled round last Sunday.

Highworth took their chance to get their season on track, second-half goals from Fabien McCarthy and Tom Cole seeing off Tadley Calleva at the Elms.

Roberts will now turn his attention to his sides’ next game against Thame United, who have hit the ground running so far.

United have gone two from two in the opening pair of games, the first an astounding 8-1 demolition of Burnham before a 3-0 FA Cup triumph at the expense of Abbey Rangers.

Paul Braithwaite’s Royal Wootton Bassett Town are also back in action tomorrow afternoon.

Braithwaite’s team have to travel to the Triangle Ground where they visit Henley Town.

Bassett have made a lacklustre start to the new season after a heavy recruitment drive over the summer with 10 new faces arriving.

Former Bassett striker Sam Collier inspired Carterton to a 3-2 comeback victory last week, while a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Andover in the FA Cup followed.

Bassett’s hosts have struggled to get their campaign moving too, losing their opening game of the season 1-0 to Binfield before crashing out of the FA Cup following a 3-1 defeat to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
