SWINDON Supermarine’s trailblazing start to the new season suffered a bump in the road as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Slimbridge on tonight.
Dave Webb’s men had won their first three fixtures in the Southern League Division One South & West, scoring 10 goals along the way, but they were unable to find a way to get the better of their Gloucestershire opponents.
Marine missed the chance to take an early lead as Josh Parsons’ third-minute penalty was saved by Slimbridge goalie Adrian Kowalski, who pushed the striker’s effort onto the post before clawing away the rebound.
The hosts took the lead in the 47th minute through defender Richard Thwaite but the in-form Connor Waldon headed home his sixth goal of the season to level things up.
Wednesday's draw leaves Webb's Marine second in the table after four games, two points behind leaders Hereford.
In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town were unable to put the brakes on early pace-setters Thame United, who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground.
Highworth Town also suffered a defeat in their own back yard as they were beaten 3-2 by Ascot United at the Elms.
