PURTON manager Justin Miller had a busier Saturday than most after he watched his side win 9-6 away at North Leigh.

Miller’s men were in the lead throughout, and were 6-4 up at half-time, and braces from Matt Benett and Ollie Hunt, as well as efforts from Matthew Bearne, Matthew Evans, Joe Hiscock, Shannon Pocock and an own goal, made up their huge haul.

“It’s a freak game. We scored in the first minute, then we went two-up and probably should have been four or five-up in the first 15 minutes,” said Miller, whose team also missed a penalty.

“Then they scored, and again to made it 2-2. We should’ve had the game killed off in the first 10 minutes really.

“We then scored four goals, they got a couple back, so it was 6-4 at half-time and then we changed formation to have four at the back to be more solid.

“We went 7-4 up, then missed a penalty, got another penalty but scored it, so it was 8-4 and then 9-4 but after that, one of their lads came on and scored two unbelievable volleys.

“I’ve not seen anything like that. In all honesty, we should have been in double figures. It was a freakish game, we will probably draw 0-0 next game, and it’ll never happen again.

“I was bizarre sitting through it, really, I said to the boys at half-time: ‘I don’t really know what to say’. What can you say? It was strange.”

Gareth Davies’ Fairford Town also enjoyed a high-scoring game that saw them rise to the top of the Hellenic League Division One West table.

Goals from Sam Ockwell, Dan Drewett, Jack Ellis, Dan Hale and Jason Milhench meant they beat Hook Norton to record their second 5-0 win on the spin.

Shrivenham also made it two for two as they defeated Tytherington Rocks 3-0 at home thanks to goals from Lance Lewis, Jamie Prictor and Kias Bonnett-Shea. The win means they have a 100 per cent win record after beating New College 2-1 on the opening day.

Sadly for College, they were unable to turn their fortunes around as they slipped to a second consecutive defeat with a 3-1 away loss at Woodstock Town.
