DAVE Webb is looking forward to seeing how his Swindon Supermarine side fare when they come up against a Larkhall Athletic side brimming with Southern League experience this weekend.

Marine kick off a testing run of fixtures, which includes an FA Cup tie against Farnborough and a clash with last season’s play-off conquerors Taunton Town, by welcoming the Bath-based Larks to the Webb’s Wood Stadium on Saturday.

Larkhall have added a wealth of experience to their squad this term, bringing in the likes of goalkeeper Ben John, striker Tom Knighton and defender Josh Ford from Paulton Rovers, as well as ex-Bridgewater Town man Jamie Adams and striker Ricky Hulbert, formerly of Frome Town.

There have also been changes aplenty amongst the Marine squad but manager Webb doesn’t see any reason why his charges won’t be able to emerge victorious this weekend.

“Larkhall are always a tough side to play against and their manager, Wayne Thorne, has brought in a lot of players with a lot of Southern League experience this season,” said the Marine chief.

“We’ve got some really tough matches coming up this month but I want to see how we deal with sides like Larkhall.

“They’ve got a lot of experience and we’ve got a few young players this season but I’m not worried about the experience that we’ve got.

“We’ve also got a lot of experience at Swindon Supermarine too – people like Brad Hooper, Zak Westlake, Sam Morris and Joe Shepherd have played a lot of games at this level.

“We’ve also got players with a lot of talent and it’s just a case of trying to gel this group together.

“It’s also the start of a really tough run of fixtures for us. We’ve got tough matches against the likes of Shortwood United and Taunton coming up and we’ve got a big FA Cup game against Farnborough as well.

“We’ve played some great football already this season and games like this are going to be tough for us but I’m sure that we’ve got what it takes to do well against teams like Larkhall.”

Having played a game less than most other teams in the Southern League Division One South & West due to last month’s postponed meeting with Shortwood United, Marine are currently seventh in the table, with Larkhall two places below in ninth.

Striker Dan Martin looks set to miss Saturday’s game while captain Bradley Gray is away on holiday.
