NEW College managed to put their midweek loss behind them as they beat Cheltenham Saracens 5-3 in Hellenic Division One West on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Antonio Gerrish and a double from Alex Fenton was enough to claim all three points for Matt Cosnett’s team.

The win saw them climb to eighth place in the league and it was their third win in their last four fixtures.

College were a goal down with one minute on the clock, but Gerrish was there to get his first of three and even the scores.

Cosnett was happy with his team’s performance but admits they will have to cut out their costly errors.

“They’re young lads, they need to learn how to see out a game but that will come with experience, the oldest player we had was the goalkeeper and he’s 23,” said Cosnett “Silly errors cost us the goals, we will be working on that in training this week but attacking wise the college played outstandingly well.”

“We need to pick up results early in the season because that was a problem last year we didn’t pick up many.

“It’s quite nice to get some points on the board against teams we probably would have been beaten by last year.”

Purton had a less dramatic Saturday afternoon as they played out their first goalless draw against Shortwood United Reserves.

Both teams are back in action next weekend when New College Swindon host Cirencester Town development and Purton play Abingdon United.
