COUNTY Cup fever swept over the Swindon Sunday League with Deers Leap being the weekend’s big winners.

After going 1-0 down, Gerry Ellis’ team put 12 goals past Chippenham and District Sunday League side Pig and Whistle - Mickey Jacks grabbed four, both Adam Jacks and Carl Merchant got two, while Reece Chaplin, Ryan Fry, John Hollyoak and Callum Mavlin also netted.

“It was a good result. When you’re in the cup you never know - because the teams aren’t in the Swindon area - what they’re like,” said the Deers Leap manager.

“You have to prepare a bit better than when you play Swindon teams because you’ll have a rough idea of what to expect.

“We went 1-0 down, then it took us 15 to 20 minutes to get into the game as usual and once we got the first goal it was plain sailing from there, I didn’t expect 12, I’m over the moon.”

DPR were also victorious, defeating Collingbourne 5-1 away and Your Sport Swindon won 7-2 against Oakhill.

AFC Cricklade defeated George & Dragon 7-1, Croft Junior were 2-0 winners over Swindon Rovers and Smart Movers overcame Crown to claim a 3-2 away win.

Division Two league leaders Chilli Shak were held to a 1-1 draw away at Rodbourne Real, Fairford Town were beaten 4-0 at home by Cleeve Tech as DH Fitness were 5-2 winners at Woodlands Edge.

In Division Three, Stratton Saints rectified their opening day defeat with a 6-1 win at the expense of Moovahome, while Haydon returned home from Willowgreen Hotspur with a 3-2 success.
