THE league campaign may only be four games old but DH Fitness boss Luke Jones is already eyeing up a tilt at the Division Two title.

DH lost their opener at the start of September and were then knocked out of the cup but have since won three games on the spin, most recently 6-1 away at Wanborough at the weekend.

That has carried them to the top the standings on goal difference, ahead of Cleeve Tech, who saw off DPR 2-1.

Although it is still early days, player-manager Jones’ ambition for his DH side knows no limits this season.

“We were playing around with a few formations in the first few weeks but we have found a system that suits us now,” said Jones.

“I think Sunday was the best we have played this season and I think it’s some of the best football I can remember at DH.

“We have picked up some good results and now it’s up to us to try to carry it on and finish the season as high as we can.

“We are hoping to have one of the best seasons DH have had. I want us to get promoted and win the league – that’s got to be the goal.

“We have got the players and we have got a good team but we will just take it one week at a time.”

Craig Whitbread gave DH an early lead at Wanborough and from there, the visitors never looked back. Dan Heath bagged a brace, while Adam Drury, John Shoesmith and boss Jones were also on target.

Jones added: “We took control right from the kick-off. We passed the ball around really well and we scored after only a few minutes.

“When we were playing it around, I think they were a bit outclassed, really. It was a really good performance.”
