MARLBOROUGH Town enjoyed a high-scoring Saturday when they beat Devizes Town Reserves 9-1 at the weekend.

Tom Thatcher’s team were clearly enjoying their afternoon as they raced into a four-goal lead before the interval.

They then further strengthened their grip on all three points when they bundled another five past the visitors, who could only manage a consolation effort.

Thatcher’s men have now moved to within a point of the leaders Cricklade Town, who currently have 19 points so far this season. The Marlborough boss said that he was delighted with the performance, which saw Devan Bryan score five, a double from Christopher Deane and a goal each for Nathan Good and Ben Crame.

“We conceded a silly goal in the last ten minutes, which I think went down as an own goal in the end, so we scored all ten goals,” said Thatcher.

“It was a bit of a one-sided match. We out-played them a lot.

"I was definitely surprised that we managed to score nine.

“We weren’t going to underestimate Devizes as they are always a tough test and they were last season as well.

“We didn’t go into the game with the mentality that it would be an easy game. We are taking each game as it comes.

“The most pleasing part from the weekend is getting a lot of players on the scoresheet and Devan (Bryan) getting five and increasing his tally, so it’s superb.”

Beversbrook failed to build on their 12-2 win over Malmesbury Victoria Development last weekend as they were thumped 9-0 by high-flying Shrewton United.

Melksham Town threw away a 2-1 half-time lead as they eventually drew 3-3 away to Cricklade, who can thank Ben Carter’s hat-trick for their point.

Ludgershall Sports wrapped up all three points in a comfortable 2-0 home win over Corsham Town Reserves.

That result has seen the former move into sixth place, whilst Corsham Reserves currently reside in 10th.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves dropped another two points this weekend as they could only manage a 2-2 stalemate away at Trowbridge Town.

Elsewhere, Wroughton also dropped two points when they recorded the same scoreline against Wilts Calne Town.
