GARETH Davies reckons it is not just Jason Milhench who deserves praise following Fairford Town’s 6-0 thrashing of local rivals New College.

Milhench helped himself to a hat-trick at Cinder Lane as second-placed Fairford pulled within three points of Division One West leaders Hook Norton.

Lee Smith, Luke Cordery and Ben Saunders were also on target as Davies’ side increased their goal difference to plus 33 after only eight games of the league programme.

“I thought all three of Jason’s goals, he took very well, although the first one was a bit special,” said manager Davies.

“It’s not just our centre forwards that are scoring goals; everyone is chipping in, which is a good thing for us.

“We are not just relying on just the boys that are playing up front; we are chipping in from out wide and down the middle.

“It’s pleasing that everyone is at it, except for Josh Morse, who can’t buy a goal, bless him.”

Although the scoreline suggests a ruthless performance, Davies conceded it was far from perfect but was satisfied that his team did what was required to beat a College side who are struggling at the wrong end of the table.

“It wasn’t pretty and we have played better but I can’t really complain about six goals at home and another three points, so it was a good day at the office,” said Davies.

“They are young lads in the College team and their results recently have not been the best but to be fair to them, they tried to get the ball down and tried to play the right way, which I have got a lot of time for.

“But at the end the day, we have only got to worry about ourselves and we just need to keep chalking the points up.”

Elsewhere, Joe Herbert, Shannon Pocock and Aaron Stevens were all on target as Justin Miller’s Purton saw off visitors Woodstock Town 3-1 at the Red House.

Finally, Shrivenham earned safe passage in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup thanks to a 2-0 win away at North Bucks Division One side Saxton Rovers.
