CHIPPENHAM Town boss Mark Collier insists quality rather than quantity will inform his thinking when it comes to sourcing a replacement for defender Jon Beeden.

Collier will look at adding a new face to his squad after Beeden departed Hardenhuish Park to link up with Evo-Stik League Division One South & West Swindon Supermarine before yesterday's 2-1 Premier Division victory over Stratford Town.

Beeden had struggled for game time in Collier's high-flying squad, making a solitary appearance in the Wiltshire Senior Cup victory over Wroughton in midweek, and headed to Marine after a seven-day approach from the South Marston outfit.

But Bluebirds chief Collier admits any new player will have to be the right fit after watching his side comfortably claim their third league victory on the trot.

"It's not a numbers game,'' said the Town boss. "But we will try to bring someone in to replace Jon. It's got to be the right type of person and player and someone who will fit in.''

Will Richards and Dave Pratt fired the home side into a 2-0 lead that was only halved late on as Stratford substitute Richard Gregory netted from long range.

Although the scoreline was close, Collier felt his side were in control of the contest throughout.

"It was a comfortable 2-1,'' he added. "We were in the ascendancy for long periods and I think they (Stratford) had maybe one or two shots all afternoon before giving us a bit of a late scare.

"(Greg) Tindle and Richards were outstanding at the back and our front two of Pratt and (Andy) Sandell are always a threat to everyone. It was another good three points for us."

The Bluebirds travel to Banbury on Tuesday evening.
