ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town boss Rich Hunter labelled his team’s performance as ‘terrible’ after they were thumped 6-0 by Bracknell Town.

The visitors took the lead through former Bassett striker TJ Bohane when he scored a fine free-kick on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, the floodgates opened as James McClurg doubled Bracknell’s lead in the in the 53rd minute.

Adam Cornell then put the visitors out of sight as they went 3-0 up with just over 15 minutes of the game to play.

Bracknell weren’t done there as they continued to dominate the hosts, Bohane adding his second before George Short and Carl Davies completed the rout.

“They scored just before half-time with a decent free-kick but there was still something to get out of the game, I was still confident,” said the Bassett chief.

“But a few silly mistakes cost us, then that was it. When they got to 3-0, we never looked like getting back into it.

“We will go through the match in training. There are a few areas I want to address. It is about learning from it.''

Hunter was less than pleased with his side’s display, stating that they lacked any fight to get back into contention.

“Overall, the most disappointing thing was silly mistakes and the attitude, the lack of willingness to fight to get us back in the game,” he added.

“It was terrible from our point of view, we never really got started or got into the game but fair play to Bracknell; they were a very good team.

“Some days, with the same squad of players, they’ll put on a performance and play out of their skins and then sometimes, they just don’t put it together.

“There didn’t seem to be any cohesion, and after two or three went in, their heads just dropped and the fight went out of them.

“You need 11 players to stand up and be leaders. They are all experienced players. We needed 11 leaders yesterday and we didn’t have one.”

Defeat leaves Bassett in sixth place in the Hellenic League Premier Division table, with a total of 22 points from their opening 14 games.

Highworth Town were also in action, but they fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Thatcham Town.

Despite the final scoreline, it was Jeff Roberts’ side who got the first goal when Ashley Edenborough netted in the sixth minute.

The afternoon then got even better for the visitors as Edenborough doubled his tally to put the Worthians 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

The hosts finally replied on the hour mark when Josh Helmore found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

James Tennant then added to Highworth’s woes when he levelled the game in the 86th minute before Helmore snatched a winner with three minutes left to play.

The Worthians are next in action when they host Lydney Town on Wednesday night.
