WROUGHTON assistant manager Paul Bowden feels like his team have ‘got used to winning’ as they maintained their fine start to the season last weekend.

The villagers are currently two points behind table-toppers Shrewton United in the Wiltshire Senior League table with a game in hand after thumping Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves 7-1 on Saturday.

Teenager Jordan Lea, 17, scored twice while Tom Dingle, Richie Saunders, Gary Phillips, Ollie Armstrong and Riegan Cook – another 17-year-old – all also got in on the act.

“We’ve only lost twice all season,” said Bowden.

“Once was against Chippenham Town (in the Wiltshire Senior Cup last week), and they’re four leagues above us, and we also lost 1-0 to Trowbridge, who are a very good side.

“At the moment, everybody is used to winning.

“We’ve brought in a few experienced players that have played at a higher level, like Glenn Armstrong, Richie Saunders and Dane Moulden. They’ve added to the team and the young lads that we’ve brought in from our development side have brought the pace and the energy.

“We know that it’s early days but things are going well at the moment.”

Elsewhere, second-placed Cricklade Town kept themselves breathing down the necks of Shrewton with a 2-0 triumph at Devizes Town Reserves.

Dave Coleman and Toby Clark got the goals for Cricklade but pace-setters Shrewton were also victors courtesy of their 3-0 win at Trowbridge Town.

Marlborough Town, who are fourth, got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Bromham, with Devan Bryan, the league’s top-scorer, helping himself to a brace while Christopher Deane also found the net.

Meanwhile, Corsham Town Reserves came out on the right end of a five-goal thriller with Pewsey Vale Development, with the former winning 3-2.

In the Senior Knockout Cup, Wilts Calne Town made sure of their progress into the quarter-finals with a 2-1 first-round victory over near neighbours Beversbrook while Malmesbury Victoria Development edged out Ludgershall Sports 1-0.

Calne are due to take on either Melksham or Pewsey in the quarter-finals while the Vics will meet Cricklade or Marlborough.
