AS THE temperatures start to plummet, AFC Gas are turning up the heat as the flames on their season burn brightly.

Mark Tring’s side are sitting pretty at the summit in Division One of the Swindon Sunday League as they look to repeat their championship winning campaign of 2014-15.

But this weekend, Gas saw their attention turn towards the Wiltshire FA Sunday Cup and a visit from Chippenham and District Sunday League Division One side Bremhill View.

After a goalless first half, Daniel Reynolds and Matthew Bissett struck to ensure that Tring’s side progressed to the third round.

“We knew that it was going to be a tough game as they have got a good record in their league,” said Tring, who took up the reins from Alan Blake this season.

“But we went into the game full of confidence and belief that we would be victorious.

“We grew into the match and started to dominate them.

“We got our first goal early in the second half and that was a real team effort and then we made sure that there was no way back for Bremhill View.

“That was our 11th match of the season and we have won nine and drew two.

“We did the double in 2014-15 season and hopefully we can keep our run going.”

Elsewhere in the Sunday Cup, fellow Division One side Penhill United ran out 4-0 winners over Faded, Division Two outfit Chilli Shak overcame their potential banana skin with Save On Tyres Athletic – the Division Five team put up a good fight before going down 8-6.

Willow Hotspur booked their place in the third round with a comfortable 6-1 success over Calne BFC, while there were walkover wins for FC Walcot and Your Sport Swindon.

DH Fitness climbed to top of the table in Division Two following their 6-1 success over basement side Wanborough.

Previous leaders Cleeve Tech, who now trail DH on goal difference, fell to a 4-3 home defeat against Fairford Town Sunday, while in the other match to take place in the division DPR ran out 3-0 winners over Real Rodbourne.

There was only one game that took place in the Division Four and that saw Swindon Athletic held to a 1-1 draw with Nationwide.

Northern Lights were unable to build on their second win of the season from the previous weekend as they went down to a 6-3 defeat at Sevenfields United in the one match that was played in Division Five.
