SWINDON Supermarine are keen to put a wet and windy week behind them as they look to find some league form.

Dave Webb’s side are without a win in their last four Southern League Division One South & West games, but did cause an upset in the Wiltshire Senior Cup last week when they knocked out Southern League Premier outfit Chippenham Town.

Webb was keen to build on that result but has been left irritated after their trip to Barnstaple Town was called off last Saturday before their home meeting with Slimbridge also failed a pitch inspection.

After two weeks without a league game, Marine are chomping at the bit to get back out and right the wrongs of their 4-0 defeat to Bideford when they host 12th-placed Didcot Town.

“It’s been frustrating,” said Webb.

“After the really good performance against Chippenham, we were keen to travel to Barnstaple and get a positive league result but that fell foul of the weather.

“On Tuesday night, we have not managed to play so it is difficult.

“We’ve had a lot of investment in our pitch so it is disappointing that it wasn’t quite up to it. Hopefully, we won’t be too rusty and we will be able to start well against Didcot.

“They are a much improved team, they are unbeaten in five and drew with Hereford, which sparked the start of this little run they are on.

“It is a tough game, it always is against them, and we’ll have to be at the level we were at against Chippenham if we are to get the win that we crave.”

Sam Morris, a one-game suspension, and Josh Parsons, a four-game suspension, will both miss out.

Marine’s recent run of form has seen them drop out of the play-off places in the league and with the teams behind them gathering within striking distance, Webb is keen to see his side put a run together over the festive period.

“We’ve got a little run of games now that we have got to look to get some points from,” he added.

“League points are what we are after, we have been a bit lean in the league and we need to get back to winning ways.

“The challenge to the players is where they want to be at Christmas and how we finish the year.

“Ideally, you don’t want to be too far away from the play-off spots - ideally you want to be in those spots.

“As quick as you can get into those positions, you can fall away.

“We’re all up to the challenge of trying to get on a little run and a bit of improved form in the league because that it where it matters.”
