DAVE Webb insists that he ‘won’t accept’ his Swindon Supermarine side’s struggles after their winless run of league matches stretched to a sixth match on Saturday.

Marine, who hadn’t been in action since their Wiltshire Senior Cup victory over Chippenham Town on November 15, were beaten 3-1 at home by in-form Didcot Town and now haven’t tasted victory in the Southern League Division One South and West since October 22 when they triumphed 5-0 at Bridgwater Town.

Webb reckoned that his side were the architects of their own downfall due to a poor first half, during which Didcot’s Louis Joyce fired home the opener from close range.

Marine did get themselves back on level terms when Joe Selman’s cross was turned into his own net by Adam Learoyd but Diddy’s Joyce made it 2-1 before the break when he finished after Ben Whitehead’s strike had hit the post.

The home side rallied in the second period and searched for a way to wipe out Didcot’s lead once again but their efforts proved in vain as former Marine man Whitehead rounded things off with a 90th–minute goal to hand the visitors their fifth win on the spin.

“Our downfall was down to us in the first half, even though we got a goal back. We were a lot better in the second half but we haven’t managed to get another one,” said Webb, whose team will go looking to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to AFC Totton next Tuesday.

“We’re on a poor run at the moment. We haven’t won in six league games and it’s a lot different to where we were a month ago when we were in the top three and winning matches.

“I’m not going to accept it.

“Things stop with me but it’s down to myself, the players and all of the staff to work that bit harder to put things right.

“That has to start against (AFC) Totton on Tuesday. If it doesn’t, then maybe I have to start looking at my selection of the team.

“That’s not to say that I’m going to start panicking and bringing loads of players in because we’ve got a good group – them being young isn’t an excuse.

“I hope that my players aren’t going to accept it. I hope that they go away and take stock, and they’re ready for the Totton game.”
