MALMESBURY Victoria had their world turned upside down on Saturday as, after leading league leaders Keynsham Town 3-0 in Bristol, they returned home with nothing to show for their efforts.
Josh Russell’s poked finish and Sam Parker’s two goals either side of the break had Kevin Bridgeman’s men in dreamland on the hour mark but an almighty Keynsham comeback saw the hosts run out 5-4 winners.
First, the home side’s Jordan Anstey managed to sneak a weak effort past the Vics goalie before Antony Brown was penalised for handball and Sam Duggan dispatched the resultant spot-kick.
At the other end, Russell was denied a second goal by the Keynsham keeper and the hosts went straight up the other end to level things up at 3-3 courtesy of Matt Brown.
The chaos continued as Keynsham’s Patrick Davidson notched to make it 4-3 but Ed Wilkins curled home a right-footed effort to restore parity once again.
However, the Vics were ultimately undone with around 15 minutes to go as Brown found space in the box to fire home his team’s fifth and complete a chastening afternoon for the men from the Flying Monk Ground.
