SWINDON Town Ladies will once again go in search of a place in the second round of the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday.
Steve Robertson’s side travel to take on Southampton Women on Sunday, with the original tie having been postponed last weekend.
Town should head to Testwood Stadium in Totton as favourites to progress as they take on a Southampton side – who have no affiliation to the men’s Premier League outfit – who ply their trade two tiers lower.
Robertson’s troops will be hoping the cup can provide them with some much-needed respite to what has been largely a tough season overall, with Town winning just two of their 12 fixtures in the Southern Division of the FA Women’s Premier League following their promotion last term.
Southampton should not be underestimated, however, as they are currently top of the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division table with six wins from six so far.
The match will be just a second for Robertson’s side in the last four weeks, with their last outing a 4-0 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the league.
Victory for Swindon would see them match their cup exploits of last season, where they qualified for the second round only to be knocked out by Spurs, who were then in a higher division.
Should Robertson’s side triumph on Sunday, they will face a trip to Cambridge United in the second round following the draw earlier this week after the conclusion of the majority of first-round ties.
