MORE crucial tests may be on the horizon but Swindon Supermarine manager Dave Webb believes that his team must be ready to pull off a professional job when they host Slimbridge tonight.

Marine, who stretched their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 1-0 win over Wimborne Town last weekend, go to second-placed Tiverton Town next Saturday and in the remainder of January, they also take on Mangotsfield United, who are fourth, and seventh-placed Taunton Town.

But before that, Webb’s men have Gloucestershire outfit Slimbridge, who are 17th in the Southern League Division One South & West table, to contend with and the Webbswood Stadium boss believes tonight’s game (kick-off 7.45pm) is as crucial to his team’s play-off hopes as any other.

“Our focus is on Slimbridge but we then get ready to go to Tiverton on Saturday, which we’re all looking forward to,” said Marine chief Webb.

“As a manager and as a player, you look forward to the big games but you have to take care of the games that you really need to win, and tonight’s another game like that.

“We need to make sure we don’t let our levels drop. Hopefully, we can get three points against Slimbridge and then we can get ready for Tiverton, but this game is the focus.

“If we don’t pick up three points, we’ll be disappointed.

“No disrespect to Slimbridge but our home form will be absolutely vital and we’ve got to make sure that we keep winning at home.

“We probably weren’t at our best (on Saturday) but we’ve won the game and I’m over the moon for the players – we’ve got nine games unbeaten and we’ll try to make it 10, and then we get ready for the big games that are ahead.

They’re not in great form but they’ve got some good players. It’s about total respect for the opposition but if we want to reach where we want to be this season, it’s a game we’ve got to try and win.

“We always aim for the play-offs and if we want to reach them, Saturday was a game we wanted to win – and we did – and Tuesday’s a game we need to go and win.”

Full-back Macauley Dodson isn’t expected to feature against Slimbridge after missing last weekend’s Wimborne triumph with an ankle injury while Ryan Wood, who has recently been sidelined by illness, is also a doubt.
