SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb has labelled this weekend’s clash with Taunton Town as a huge fixture - but is guarding against seeing it as a season-defining one.

Taunton are just three points and one place behind Webb’s troops in Southern League Division One South & West, but have played four games less than the Webbswood Stadium side.

The Peacocks are also full of confidence after becoming the first side to beat leaders Hereford earlier this month.

They followed that up with an emphatic 10-2 win over Larkhall Athletic, which further underlined their quality.

“They don’t come much tougher. They’re nine games unbeaten in the league and it is nine straight wins as well,” said Webb.

“It’s a big game for us against the form side in the league.

“It doesn’t come much harder than that, especially away from home.

“But we are on a good run ourselves so we have just got to go there and try to do what we did when we went to Devon to play Tiverton Town two weeks ago.

“That was our best performance on a difficult pitch against a good side. Everything is in our hands in terms of our aspirations for the season.

“Going down to Taunton is always difficult. We will have to be really organised and the players will have to be really focussed.”

Despite the game being an ideal opportunity for Marine to win some points against one of their play-off rivals, Webb doesn’t think a loss would be the end of the world.

“It’s one game. I don’t see it as a defining moment. If we win the game then fantastic because it keeps everything ticking over,” added Webb.

“Every game is difficult. One loss isn’t going to define our season and neither will one win, but psychologically, a win would be massive.

“If we weren’t successful then we will just focus on our next games. There are still a lot of games to play.

“The players have given themselves a fantastic opportunity to achieve the play-offs, which is where we are at the moment, but we are aware of the quality that’s just above us and just behind us.”

Webb is sweating on the fitness of Ash Taylor, Ryan Campbell and Macauley Dodson, while Joe Shepherd is suspended.
