SWINDON Supermarine fell to their first defeat in 13 as they were stunned at home by Bishops Cleeve.

First-half goals from Jack Horrell, Joe Bates and Jacob Davidge put the visitors to the Webbswood Stadium in control, having seen Ryan Campbell level shortly after the hour mark.

Callum Parsons pulled a goal back with eight minutes left on the clock but it was not enough as Bates got his second three minutes from time to secure the 4-2 win.

Marine were forced into an early change when Zak Westlake was forced off with a head injury after 10 minutes and replaced by Sam Morris.

Despite a bright start, Dave Webb’s side began to get sloppy in possession and invited pressure from the visitors.

It told in the 17th minute when Ryan Morgan conceded a free-kick 20 yards out and despite Horrell’s first attempt hitting the wall, he hit the rebound first time and it took a deflection to wrong-foot Connor Johns and nestle in the back of the net.

There were shouts for a penalty in the 34th minute when Ben Prothero was caught in possession by Callum Parsons and with the forward bearing down on goal, he appeared to be brought down by the right-back.

The referee waved away any claims but it wasn’t long before Marine were back on level terms when Brad Hooper split the defence with a great ball forward in the 35th minute and the pace of Campbell saw him latch onto the ball before calmly side footing the ball into the far corner.

However, a lapse in concentration at the back saw the visitors regain their lead three minutes later when a back pass left Connor Johns short and the Marine keeper was caught in possession, leaving Bates a tap in from a yard out.

Johns could do little about Bishop Cleeves’ third four minutes before the break when Davidge came back to haunt his former club with a fine header in the box.

Marine tried to come out of the dressing room on the front foot and Matt Wieczorek did well to tip Hooper’s long range effort around the post early on.

Marine continued to enjoy a lot of possession in the second half but on a pitch that was showing the ill-effects of a harsh winter, the ball often bobbled at the most inopportune moments.

However, the hosts were able to reduce the arrears in the 82nd minute when substitute Joe Selman drove into the box down the right, before cutting the ball back and finding Parsons in space, who struck the ball first time into the net.

With Marine looking for the equaliser, Bishops Cleeve broke and despite Johns saving the initial effort on goal, he could not hold on and Bates bundled home from close range.

Proceedings ended on a sour note as substitute Sam Morris picked up his second yellow card to receive his marching orders.
