COLESHILL Youth remain at the top of Division Four after claiming a point against their nearest title rivals, Athletico Marlborough.

Paul French’s side are yet to lose a game this season and are currently four points clear of Marlborough, who have played a game more than the league leaders.

Coleshill fell behind to the hosts in the first half as the second-placed side looked on course to be the first team to record a win against the pace-setters.

But some choice words at half-time soon got the visitors back on track as they took a 2-1 lead through Nigel Clarke and Jake Kitchen.

However, French’s troops had to settle for a point as they conceded for the second time with a minute to go as the game finished 2-2.

Despite the last-gasp equaliser, the Coleshill chief thinks a draw is a fair result between the top two sides.

“In the grand scheme of things, with the way the league is going, it’s a good draw. Marlborough are a decent team and they are in second place,” said French.

“It keeps us with a four-point lead and we have a game in hand, but obviously we would have liked to win.

“We didn’t lose and that’s nine games we haven’t been beaten so it’s kept that run going for us, but I must admit, we were dreadful in the first half.

“It was probably our worst performance, but fair play to Marlborough, they played well and closed us down nicely.

“They scored in the last minute but you have to give them credit because they never stopped working.”

French also believes the result means his team are still on course to win the league if they keep up their recent run of form.

“It’s done us no harm, in all honesty. To concede in the last minute is frustrating, you can’t deny that, and we had the chances to put us out of sight,” added French.

“I’ve been doing this for six years now and this is the best team I have had. It’s great for us as it leaves us in a position where it is completely down to us if we win the title or not.”

Meanwhile in Division One, Penhill United beat bottom side Jovial Monk 5-1.
