SWINDON Spitfires United got their campaign in the Wiltshire County Womens and Girls League off to a roaring start with and emphatic victory over a depleted Marlborough Town.

Marlborough could only field a team of nine and despite Spitfires missing a number of key players, the Premier League champions opened the scoring nine minutes in when Carla Compton’s pass allowed captain Claire Moreton shoot home.

Six minutes later, Moreton had bagged a brace with a 35-yard shot that flew in over a stranded goalkeeper.

Spitfires’ third came in the 28th minute as Laura Stallard’s through ball allowed Katie Wadey to score.

In the second half, Spitfires made several changes, giving Carla Heaton her first chance in goal for the first team.

Their fourth goal came almost immediately as Compton scored from 30 yards and then Lucy March and Charley Reynolds got in on the act to make it 6-0.

It continued to rain goals for the Spits, with Wadey scoring her second on 58 minutes with an excellent long-range shot that was misjudged by the Marlborough goalie, while Reynolds also recorded her brace on 64 minutes.

Wadey rounded off her third hat-trick in as many matches and Rachel Eley finished off a thumping 10-0 triumph.
