SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb has called on his side to get their house in order and construct the springboard for a strong end to the season when they host Bridgwater Town on Saturday.

Having gone unbeaten through January and December, Marine have suffered three defeats on the spin and have lost their last two games at the Webbswood Stadium, slipping to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Bishops Cleeve before being thrashed 6-1 by Salisbury.

Webb’s troops put in a much-improved display despite losing 2-0 at runaway Southern League Division One South and West leaders Hereford last weekend and the Marine chief is keen for his team to get their home form back on track against bottom-of-the-table Bridgwater.

“It’s important now that we put in a proper performance next Saturday at home in front of the people that watch the team, because we owe them that after the last two home performances, which have been well below-par,” said the Marine boss.

“(Against Hereford), we were much better but in the last two home games, we’ve been nowhere near the level that this group are capable of.

“That’s my challenge, to try and make sure that whoever plays against Bridgwater, we go about it properly and we put in a proper performance, and hopefully get three points.

“We need a win next weekend – that’s massive for us – and then we try to build on that and see how many games we can win between now and the end of the season.”

Webb’s troops have slipped to eighth in the table and are currently eight points outside the play-offs.

However, Marine still have to play the likes of Mangotsfield United, Bideford, Evesham United and Tiverton – teams all currently occupying higher positions – in the final two months of the season, so Webb has little reason to give up on a top-five finish just yet.

He said: “Our challenge now is to build upon the performance against Hereford in the remaining league games and in the Wilts (Senior) Cup semi-final, when we play Calne (on Wednesday, March 8).

“We need to progress to the final and hopefully win that, and then try and get as many points as we can in the remaining league games.

“Who knows? There have been some surprises like Evesham getting beat at home to Slimbridge (last weekend), so we’ve just got to keep going to get as many points as we can, and see where it takes us.

“Looking at the way the players have gone about it against Hereford, it’s not case of just seeing the season out.

“We’re going to try to get as many points as we can and see if that’s good enough, and if it isn’t, let’s try and finish as high as we can.”
