Swindon Supermarine J took a step closer to the North Wilts Youth League’s U13 Division One title with a 3-1 win over Ferndale Rodbourne.
In what was a rare below-par performance from the home side on a hard South Marston pitch, Marine’s first goal came courtesy of Owen Spavins.
Marine keeper Josh Pickett was on hand to prevent the visitors gaining parity with their first shot on goal before Harry Johnson saw his shot pushed behind for a corner.
From the resulting set-piece Spavins grabbed his brace when he headed home to double the hosts' advantage.
There was little to offer in a mostly drab second half but when chances did arrive it was the hosts who created them.
Max Townsend hit the side netting after good work from Johnson before the visitors pulled a goal back.
Marine regained their two-goal advantage when a visiting defender turned the ball into his own net.
