SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was frustrated by his team’s lack of concentration as they lost 3-1 away to Larkhall Athletic on Saturday.

Marine fell behind in the 10th minute when Alex Lambert slotted home for Larkhall, but the visitors were soon back on level terms as Josh Parsons found the back of the net just 10 minutes later.

However the hosts retook the lead in the 35th minute when Ben Brooks volleyed home to make it 2-1, a narrow lead which they took into half time.

The second half saw the hosts seal the victory as Brooks bagged his second of the game to edge Webb’s troops out 3-1 in their final league fixture of the season.

“Some of our football was actually quite good. We had some good approach play but basically we were caught napping a few times,” said Webb.

“We didn’t switch on for some of our set plays and we got punished.

“We scored a great goal to get back into the game but then conceded two on a pitch which was very similar to Shortwood last week “We left ourselves too much to do and with North Leigh winning that has dropped us down to seventh.”

Costly defeats to Paulton Rovers and Shortwood United meant Supermarine’s bid for a top five finish whimpered towards the end of the campaign as they ultimately came up short in their pre-season ambitions.

While Webb will be disappointed with the way Supermarine’s play-off bid petered out, the Marine chief insisted the club will rebuild over the summer and go again next term.

“There have been lots of good stuff and a few bits we want to move on from. I think seventh is a fair reflection on our season,” added Webb.

“We put a young side together this year and we have got a lot of work to do in the summer to get some additional players in.

“It doesn’t stop for me. I’ll keep working at it and trying to improve so we have the right balance in the team.

“The players will go away after Thursday and we have the Wiltshire Senior Cup final still to look forward to.

“Hopefully that will get us some silverware because I think it would be a fitting end to our season.”

Marine play their last game of the season on Thursday evening where they come up against Hellenic League Premier Division side and local rivals Highworth Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final at the County Ground, kick-off 7.45pm.
