WROUGHTON will be looking to create a piece of club history tomorrow when they clash with Shrewton United in the Fountain Trophies KO Cup final.

After being crowned Wiltshire League winners last month, Mark Love’s men will look to complete the double against a side they pipped to the title.

Last year, Wroughton lifted the cup after they beat Chippenham Park Development 2-1 in the final with goals from Dan Cole and Steve Nisbitt.

However, the village side, who are taking a 52-seater coach full of supporters to Corsham’s Southbank, are now aiming to do the double for the first time in their history.

“It would just be the icing on the cake,” Wroughton assistant manager Paul Bowden said.

“We have won the league before (in 2007-08) and we won the cup last year.

“But we have never managed to do it both together so if we could do that on Saturday then we would be creating a piece of history.”

Shrewton, who finished runners up in the league for the second successive season, have applied for promotion to the Sydenhams League and Bowden knows that they will have a tough game.

“When we played them at their place we won 3-2 and they beat us 3-2 at our place,” the Wroughton assistant said.

“They are a good side, but we managed to rest a few players last weekend as we had already won the league.

“We have got a fully-fit squad to choose from and hopefully we can win the cup once again.”
