SWINDON Town U18s claimed a 4-3 win over Jeff Roberts’ Highworth Town in an entertaining pre-season fixture.

A thunderous strike from Swindon’s Ralph Graham put the visitors ahead, before Sol Price scored on the half hour mark to make it 2-0.

With the game potentially falling away from them, Highworth needed some form of response and that’s what they got when Aysa Corrick popped up to slash Town’s lead.

In the 33rd minute Jake Bancroft restored a two goal cushion for Town’s youngsters, to make it 3-1 at the interval.

The second instalment was just as entertaining as the first, Josh Slocombe pegged Town back once again from the restart.

Ash Edenborough then levelled things for the first time since kick-off, but it wasn’t enough as Alan McLoughlin’s troops ran out 4-3 winners.

Roberts will take his team to Lydney Town on Tuesday evening for their first game of the Hellenic League campaign.

Swindon Supermarine’s preparation for the new season continued over the weekend as they lost 3-0 at home to Banbury United.

Dave Webb’s side have had a tough pre-season schedule, coming up against the likes of Swindon Town, Newport County and Gloucester City.

So far, their win came over Hellenic League Premier Division outfit, Royal Wootton Bassett where they were 5-0 victors.

Banbury took the lead halfway through the opening 45 minutes when Tom Walters was able to find the target from a set piece 25 minutes in.

The visitors held that advantage at the break, but soon doubled their lead when Luke Carnell was left to head the ball home five minutes after the restart.

Two then became three just short of the hour mark, Conor McDonagh was the man who slotted home the third.

Webb will have one more game to run the rule under his current stock, with a visit from League One side Forest Green Rovers tomorrow night.

Royal Wootton Bassett slumped to their second consecutive defeat, as they were edged out 2-1 by Shortwood United.

Rich Hunter has now seen his side be beaten in their last four outings, with the season opener against Brackley Town Saints on Tuesday.

Josh Hughes was the man on target for Bassett but his effort proved nothing more than a consolation.
