A WIN is a win in the eyes of Jeff Roberts, who watched Highworth Town claim a 5-1 triumph at home to Burnham in the FA Vase.

Despite failing to keep a clean sheet for a third game in a row, the Worthians boss says he will take victories however they come.

“Burnham had got some players in and were much better than when we played them at the start of the season,” he said.

“I thought in the first 10 minutes they worked really well, but we got settled into the game and our movement was really good.

“Going in at (half-time) 4-0 I said we just needed to keep our shape. Obviously there was no need for us to push forward because the game was won.

“We took our foot off the pedal and conceded a silly goal with some passing at the back.

“But we would have taken a 5-1 win at the beginning of the game.”

Ash Edenborough and Aysa Corrick were in the goals again as they both registered doubles, while Keiron Gleed got the other.

Elsewhere, Rich Hunter’s Royal Wootton Bassett Town claimed a comfortable 5-0 home win over Codicote in their second qualifying round tie.

Sam Packer put in an outstanding performance, chipping in with four goals, before laying on an assist late on.

All of Packer’s goals came in the first half, Rory Sproule got Bassett’s fifth when Packer was able to pick him out on the back post.

Sproule made no mistake from close range as he slotted home to seal the win and open his account with the Hellenic League Premier Division side.

Bassett boss Hunter highlighted the performance of the goalscorers in what was another solid outing for the home side.

“It was a really great game, especially in the first half,” said Hunter.

“Sam Packer scored four excellent goals and the game was done by half-time. He put in a great performance and contributed all over the pitch.

“We kept the ball well in the second half and it was only a matter of time until Rory Sproule got his first goal for the club.

“It was really good to see him score because he has been playing well for two or three weeks now, so hopefully he will continue to score for us now.”
