HIGHWORTH Town reclaimed their place at the top of the Hellenic Premier Division table after making it a perfect 10 league wins in a row since the start of the season last night.
Jeff Roberts’ side were knocked off the summit by Flackwell Heath on Monday night but have since climbed back to the head of the pack after a 5-1 victory at home to Lyndey Town.
Highworth took the lead after 20 minutes at the Elms, with Ashley Edenborough breaking the deadlock from the penalty spot.
That was how it stayed until the interval, although the hosts were able to pull further clear just seven minutes after the restart when Wayne Turk doubled the advantage.
The floodgates promptly opened for the Worthians, with Callum Parsons, Aaron Ferris and Kieron Gleed swiftly getting in on the act before Ross Gabriel netted a late consolation for Lydney.
Elsewhere, Fairford Town claimed their first Premier Division win at the 12th time of asking thanks to a last-minute winner from Lee Smith.
Honours at Cinder Lane looked set to finish even with Fairford tied at 1-1 against visiting Tuffley Rovers, only for Smith to snatch the points at the death.
Jamie Reid had earlier given the home side the lead inside five minutes, although that was cancelled out by Brett James’ equaliser for Tuffley in the second half.
