NINE appears to be a lucky number for Penhill United as they have been one short of double figures in their last four outings, in which they have claimed four victories.

Their most recent came on Sunday, where they were 9-0 winners at home to bottom-of-the-league Swiss Chalet, a result which takes them to third in the table, tied with four teams who all have six points.

Penhill manager Graham Dunn is delighted with the start his side have made to the season following their perfect record to date.

“Nine has been a bit of a lucky number for us over the last nine weeks,” he said.

“I’m very happy at the moment, it’s going well and the team are playing well too.

“It was a good performance. We played good football and it makes my job easier on the touchline.”

Early leaders Cleeve Tech suffered a dent in confidence at the weekend as they were beaten 5-3 at home by second-placed FC Walcot. Cleeve Tech, however, remain in top spot, four points ahead of Walcot with 10 points.

Out of the three games played in the Swindon Sunday League’s top flight, all three games were won by the away side, Coleshill Youth keeping up the trend with a 5-3 win over Rodbourne Real.

Division Two had a slightly busier schedule, and league leaders Highworth Town Sunday made it three wins from three with a 4-3 victory away to Swindon Athletic.

Second-placed Purton Red House kept pace with the league leaders and with their 2-0 win away at Save on Tyres Athletic, just goal difference separates the two.

Wanborough needed just one goal to claim their first win of the season against Nationwide in a 1-0 victory away from home.

Stratton Saints were hit for six by Athletico Marlborough, as they were beaten 6-2 by the home side, in what was Marlborough’s first win of the campaign.

Croft Juniors bounced back from a defeat in their last league outing with a comfortable 5-2 win away to Rudis, to move them up to third in the table.

In the bottom tier, The Abbey Mead’s search for their first points continued after they slipped to a 6-2 loss at the hands of Swindon Rovers.

Smart Movers had no such issues at home, running out 4-0 winners against the visiting Sevenfield United.

Paxton House United were outgunned by Gorsehill Borough as they were dispatched 6-1 by the home side.

AFC Mannington also won 6-1, with their win coming against Chisledon Sunday, while Cricklade Park Rangers won 4-1 at home to Openwork United and Northern Lights lost 5-1 to Charles Geddes.
