Record numbers in the Sunday League
4:38pm Thursday 28th August 2008 in News
THE Swindon Sunday League's season kicks off in September with a record number of teams being accepted into the league.
The new teams are AC Swindon, Alan Hawkins Estate Agents, FC Rotary, Nationwide International, Patriot Arms, Phoenix Knights, Queensfield, Rodbourne Real, Southgate, Swindon Eurostars.
In Division One, Penhill United will be looking to retain their crown with AFC Gas and Greyhound being their main challengers. Of the newlypromoted sides Duckhams, GW Nalgo and Pewsey Saints will be looking to consolidate.
Division Two looks a very open division with promoted Nine Elms and AFC Cricklade hoping to set the pace.
Dennis Removals and Queenstown will be hoping last season's indifferent form is behind them and they can make a serious challenge in Division Three.
In the fourth tier, New Century are worth a bet with Village Inn and Eldene SSC being their main challengers.
In Division Five, the step up for Coleview CC could be a bridge too far as Dorcan Old Boys, Pinehurst Community and Stratton United are the dominant sides.
Division Six looks like being dominated by last season's Division Seven winners and runners-up The Regent and West Swindon Wanderers, although Walcots Finest might have a say.
The heavyweights in Division Seven will be Penhill Aces, Wheatsheaf Stratton followed by Roughmoor Rangers and Westbrook.
In Division Eight, Mercedes Benz and Swindon Macs will need to improve on last season's showing when they come up against the new teams.
