The key to the success of Longleaze Primary School is its hard-working and closely knit staffing team.

Every single member of staff is motivated to helping pupils reach their full potential by creating a caring environment where they can develop into confident learners.

The school provides a stimulating, wide-ranging education which challenges all children to achieve, both academically and socially.

The mission statement of the school is ‘Learning for Life’, which the school takes very seriously. There is a keen focus on making sure every child is taught a variety of skills which they will need for the rest of their life.

They are encouraged to be creative, enthusiastic and risk taking in their learning.

To help encourage the children to perform to their best, the school operates a reward system.

School values are assigned special awards and whenever a child demonstrates these values they receive the reward.

Each value is represented by a precious stone with sapphire being assigned to keeping focus, while collaboration is topaz.

All of the adults who work at Longleaze operate by these values in order to set an example to the pupils.

The effectiveness of this approach was shown in the Ofsted report from last year.

It stated: “Longleaze is a good school. This is a testament to the hard and effective work of senior and middle managers, and the governing body.

“Teaching is good in all year groups due to the range of effective monitoring procedures and strong commitment of staff to improving their practice.”

Lessons are taught in a cross curricular way when appropriate with different subjects being linked together.

Recent examples of this include an Anglo Saxons project where the children discovered artefacts in the school grounds with the help of archaeologists.

They spent the term researching the objects for history and finding out more about them using the internet. They wrote accounts of the objects and imagined how people’s lives would be at this time developing English skills.

The school also understands its place in the community and children are always encouraged to play their part.
