AT St Francis Church of England School, key values are used to help pupils develop into rounded individuals, centred on Christian values.

The school’s mission statement is ‘Where God’s gifts begin their journey to gain, attain and grow into life-long learners’, which is fundamental to everything the dedicated teaching team do.

The three core values of kindness, courage and character the school has adopted are taught to all the pupils.

“These values are very important in developing the children and giving them a foundation for life,” said headteacher Joy Farrell.

“Using our three main values we are able to teach them about other. At the moment we are teaching about generosity for example.

“Every class will talk about the value and there is a display in each room.”

Huge importance is placed on the school’s role with the church, with a belief held that every child is a gift from God.

There is a belief that every child is special and should be allowed to develop and grow in a nurturing environment secure in the knowledge that they are cherished.

One of the key aims is to challenge all children to reach their full potential, spiritually, intellectually, physically, creatively and socially.

Every child is encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and become self-motivated to attain their goals.

Joy said: “I think as a Church of England school we hope to give an experience of Christian teaching they can use as a model throughout the rest of their education and life.

“Through Christianity we are informing and enabling the children.”

The school, which was rated outstanding in its last Ofsted inspection, also has large grounds which teachers use to enhance the children’s learning experience, with money being spent to offer even more facilities.

There is a den building area in which pupils take part in problem solving activities and are able to take safe risks as part of their development.

The school offers a wide range of sporting activities to ensure children have a fulfilling school experience as well as before and after school clubs.
