THOUSANDS of people have pledged their support to help find Sian.

Less than 48 hours since her disappearance, more than 9,000 people have joined an online social networking group to offer support and updates as the police investigation continued.

People joined Facebook groups in their thousands and hundreds changed their Facebook profile pictures to that of the missing person poster depicting Sian.

Hundreds of people also changed their Twitter accounts to help raise awareness of the police hunt.

Celebrities including presenter Davina McCall and comedians Alan Carr and Eddie Izzard re-tweeted the appeal to their thousands of followers.

PC David Rathband, the officer blinded by killer Raol Moat, also offered his help on the online social network.

The main Facebook group is called Help Find Sian O’Callaghan.

Comfort for Sian’s family and friends was also offered in the real world as well as online with friends handing out leaflets and posting letters through doors.

Posters were put up around Old Town in the hope that someone might remember seeing her the night she disappeared.

Monsignor Richard Twomey, 74, who is in charge of the parish of Holy Rood Catholic Church in Groundwell Road, offered his support to Sian’s loved ones.

He said: “I know her young man quite well. He was at church this morning, praying for her.

“When her boyfriend came in this morning, he was at mass and we prayed for her. He was so upset, he just went off with his dad.

“I’d encourage anybody in the community and would expect them to come forward and give information about the young lady – especially anybody who knows about her movements, particularly on that night.”

Asked if the church was considering holding a special service for Sian, he said he would wait to find out more.

Sian works as a distributor support co-ordinator at Dexion, a construction company based in Dorcan.

In a joint statement, colleagues there said: “We are extremely concerned to learn of the disappearance of Sian on Friday evening.

“We are all very worried about her and hope that further developments of her whereabouts will come to light. Sian is a well-liked, friendly member of the team and always has a smile.

“Our thoughts are with Sian’s family and friends at this difficult time and any assistance we can provide in locating Sian will be willingly given.

“We hope that somebody knows something that can help the police to find her soon.

“The staff are currently still in shock and unable to talk individually on this matter, as such they have requested that we issue a collective statement on behalf of us all, at Constructor Group UK, to relay our collective thoughts at this time.”
