The mother of Becky Godden-Edwards has vowed to fight for justice for her daughter after the charge against killer Christopher Halliwell was dropped.

Karen Edwards, who gave an emotional speech outside Bristol Crown Court after the mini-cab driver was jailed for life yesterday, said she needed the help of the media and Swindon public to bring her killer to justice.

And she revealed she harbours no ill-feeling towards the police and investigating officer Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, whose mistakes led to crucial evidence in her case being ruled inadmissible in any potential trial.

Becky’s remains were found near the Gloucestershire village of Eastleach, just hours after police recovered Sian O’Callaghan’s body about 20 miles away at Uffington.

Becky’s mum said she will not give up her quest for justice.
“This is where our fight begins,” Karen said.

“I have nothing but admiration for Steve Fulcher and feel the law should be a bit more flexible,” she said.

She also paid tribute to her daughter, who fell into the trappings of heroin addiction as a teenager and became ever more distant and desperate until she disappeared forever.

“Becky was a beautiful and intelligent girl – she gave me so much love and joy as a child,” she said.

“She was loved by all her family and we all loved her with our hearts and our loss is so unbearable.

“However, as a teenager she got involved with people who introduced her to drugs and she became a very, very different person. We did everything we could to help her overcome her drug addiction. We sought help from drug charities, doctors, we also asked for help from the MP and no-one was able to help.

“We even put her into a private rehabilitation centre.
“We tried everything but the pull of her habit was much stronger and she would do whatever she needed to do to get her next fix.

“My daughter was murdered and after everything she had been through in her troubled life – she didn’t deserve that.

“If anyone has any information, anything at all that may help the police to establish when Becky was murdered or to fill in those missing years, we plead with you to come forward.”

Becky was last seen on December 27, 2002 by a police officer in the Manchester Road area and anyone with any information which could assist police investigating her disappearance should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
