The outbreak of bird flu in the enormous battery turkey farm in Suffolk is a wake-up call to the dangers of factory farming.

Whatever route the infection arrived in Suffolk, from Hungary or wherever, the way the birds are crammed together and the warm temperature in the battery houses create a lethal situation that could happen in Wiltshire or anywhere.

The total disregard for animal welfare and the inherent risks to human health in these over-intensive methods of farming are not worth it.
