IN February NO2ID Swindon staged a public meeting at the Pilgrim Centre. This was an open meeting, all that could be done by an unfunded organisation was done to publicise it.

As Anne Snelgrove MP was too busy to attend this all-party meeting she pledged to arrange another; presumably to hear what her constituents felt about the Government's plans to register us all on a massive database.

Anne Snelgrove has set her meeting for tonight at the Liden Community Centre, but we learn that the event is not to be public, rather restricted by invitation to 40 people to attend a Listening Panel.

This is contrary to her declaration (SA, February 13) that she would hold a public meeting on the ID Card issue.

Interested people have been advised that all invitations have been issued before they knew the event was taking place.

This was disappointing as I had offered Mrs Snelgrove my help in publicising her meeting and perhaps we could have avoided the annoyance caused to those that wanted to attend but couldn't because they didn't know either about the meeting or that they needed to apply for a ticket.

It is gravely concerning that a meeting set to Listen' may be turned into a closed user group on a party political wavelength.

L Warren.
