Letter from Susan Coppard
A friend and I went to several talks at the recent Swindon Literary Festival. We had time to explore the town one sunny afternoon and decided that Swindon is far more attractive and enjoyable than (most) people realise.
Here are some positives we listed:
* Beautiful countryside surrounding Swindon
* Extensive cycle paths quite separate from streets and traffic
* Swindon Literary Festival
* Swindon Philosophy Society
* The Wyvern Theatre
* The Old Town and its trendy cafes and dress shop
* The Arts Centre
* The Railway/Steam Museum
* The recreation gardens down Devizes Road
* The beautiful Town Gardens where so many delightful activities take place - not forgetting the band stand and aviary
* Lower Shaw Farm (rural oasis and home of Swindon LitFest) with its courses and activities
* Hopefully - that gorgeous old Italianate church at Market Square which is being renovated to house a variety of venues/activities.
In fact, we thought maybe it should be re-named Swingdon.
