I HAVE a suggestion for Swindon council and Mathew Singh who owns the Mechanics' Institute. What about using the building as a central location for a university? Some may think it too small, but there are other buildings in the town centre that could be converted for use as university buildings.
If you look at other universities in the country, they often have different departments dotted around a locality. We already have Oxford Brookes University and Bath University at Oakfield Campus.
It only takes a little imagination to tie these institutions together and plan for a University of North Wiltshire based in a wonderful building at the heart of Swindon.
