WE have, according to recent reports in the Advertiser, a town about to be led into a brave new world.

A town with a superb shopping centre and public buildings, a university, more sports and leisure facilities and, to oversee this Renaissance, a revitalised council led by Coun Bluh.

I wish him well but challenge him to defy the University of Bath and reject their arrogant demand for a campus adjacent to the Great Western Hospital and encroaching on Coate Country Park.

How can Swindon silence the scoffers when Bath treats the town as nothing more than a very useful overspill site?

Do the elements of civic pride, dignity, prestige and identity no longer mean anything to the councillors?

The town needs a University of Swindon, not the derogatory University of Bath in Swindon.

The logo itself is an insult.

I would urge the councillors to take notice of the massive petition in support of preserving Coate as it is. Remember your allegiance is to Swindon, not Bath.

And further Coun Bluh, you and your cabinet must get to grips with First Great Western.

The burgeoning population and the horrendous congestion on the roads cry out for a restored local rail system.

Up till now First GW have refused to consider re-opening Wootton Bassett and Purton. Are they, like Bath, free to boss Swindon?

E BEINT.
