I WOULD like to add my total support to N D Edwards regarding the comments about Mr Beint of Burnley, Lancashire.

This gentleman deserted Swindon for life in the north and while I can understand his continued interest in his home town it is high time he learned not to assume that, because he carried out a successful campaign to remove Thamesdown as the title of the Borough of Swindon using his own money, it entitles him to scupper progress here. He would be better off opposing the BNP in Burnley.

Other towns have welcomed outside educational organisations to their midst, including what is now the world-renowned University of Surrey established in Guildford courtesy of Battersea Polytechnic.

Furthermore, RMCS Shrivenham did not turn its nose up when Cranfield University came in to operate the teaching and research there.

In fact before they came, the MoD invited applications from a wide variety of other Universities Bath, Swansea and Southampton included.

When opportunities have been spurned in the past by Swindon's own college someone has to rescue the situation for the benefit of the citizens of this place.

Recently there was a visit to Swindon of a Green Party leader from Brighton supporting that other non-Swindonian protester, Jean Saunders, in her campaign against Coate. What hypocrisy when the University of Sussex is in a similar out-of-city location as University of Bath would be. They are a city: we are not.
