THE remains of a car involved in an accident that left a man dead will go on display in the town centre to highlight the dangers of drink driving.

The 25-year-old driver was killed in the crash after losing control on a bend and hitting a tree. His three passengers were also injured.

The wreckage will be on display in The Parade, next to Debenhams, from 3.30pm until 8.30pm on Thursday.

The scheme is part of Wiltshire Police's OP XS campaign, which is targeting people who commit crime while under the influence of excessive alcohol. Police carried out a similar display, with a different car, back in August.

Throughout December the focus is on targeting drink drivers.

Chief Inspector James Vaughan, the head of roads policing, said: "Any amount of alcohol affects your ability to drive safely and there is no failsafe guide as to how much alcohol you can drink and still legally drive - if you've had a drink don't drive."

To report a drink driver call the Swindon police hotline on 0845 408 7000 and select option eight.

"Drink-related road deaths and serious injuries are inexcusable and warnings about the dangers of drink driving are still too often ignored.

"One collision as a result of somebody getting behind the wheel after drinking is one collision too many.
