Hat’s off as Simon wows Oasis fans
Simon Webbe at the Oasis last night

THERE were plenty of screaming women at the Oasis who wished they could lay their hands on Simon Webbe.

But instead they had to make do with waving them from side to side and singing along during his performance in Swindon last night.

The former Blue star took to the stage to wow the crowd with his songs - both old and new - during the hour and 40-minute performance.

And while the concert may not have been a sell-out, the audience made more than enough noise to make up for it.

As the fans anxiously waited for 9pm to arrive, they started to chant, "We want Simon".

And when he burst on to the stage, complete with trilby hat, they weren't disappointed.

Kicking off with the title track from his album, Sanctuary, the audience were quick to join in and show the 28-year-old just how much they loved him.

After singing his single All This Time, which went down a storm with the energetic crowd, Simon said: "I'm going to tell all my mates to get down to Swindon.

"A lot of bands don't appreciate what their fans do for them, but I do.

"And I want to thank every one of you for coming along and seeing me tonight. You really are a good looking crowd."

As the temperature in the Oasis started to rise so did Simon's enthusiasm as he bounced across the stage.

And when he started to undo his tie and unbutton his shirt the screams from the audience reached fever pitch.

Flexing his musical muscles the Mancunian showed just what he could do by launching into a cover of Oasis' Wonderwall, followed by Lenny Kravitz's hit, Get Away.

And for those who had followed him since his boyband days, Simon went back to his roots with a Blue Medley of Fly By, Too Close and One Love.

As the show reached its climax the tempo slowed down with Grace, before he performed Coming Around Again as the crowd went wild.

He didn't let them down for the encore, running out on stage in top hat and tails and showcasing his new, rocky single Ride The Storm, which features in the new Fantastic Four movie.

Then it was time for the track the whole room had been waiting for, and as the opening notes of No Worries echoed around the Oasis, the scream could be heard from the other side of Swindon.

Rachel White, of Haydon Wick, said she had the night of her life.

"He was absolutely amazing," said the 19-year-old. "I can't believe how good he was. I just wish I had caught the towel he threw into the audience - I was so close."

Sales assistant Matt Lindley said the show had been great.

"I'm not a big fan but my girlfriend and her mate wanted to see him so I came along," said the 26-year-old, of Old Town. "But he was fantastic and I'm ashamed to say I was nodding along to must of the songs. We could definitely use more people like him playing in Swindon."

The Simon Webbe concert last night was excellent we had a brilliant time. I have been to many concerts and this was one of the best, much better than Lamar! Simon is also a lovely person who takes time to speak with his fans, Good for Swindon, we need more entertainment like this in the town.

He was excellent, such an entertaining artist! The support acts were less than impressive, and not at all worth wasting an hour of time on.
Simon was brilliant, though. He kept it very interactive, had a very good stage presence and kept everybody happy! Well worth it.

we've been lucky enough to see the 1st 2 shows & have to say its absolutely amazing! being sy supporters & blue fans since the beginning, he has come such a long way since leaving the group & is finally proving what he can do. we've always known he is a star in his own right and the show not only proves that, but leaves a mark! there is no 1 highlight but ride the storm is going to be huge & its an amazing track. he is a lovely guy having met him loads of times, and we hope his carear goes from strenght to strenght because no1 deserves it more than sy. well done sy u know we r proud n will always be there for ya. blue army rules ****

I see, so you've crept on here to start on little girls have you? You really are a sad little boy. When will you understand that nobody cares what you think about anything?

    Brilliant!!
    What's a simpathier??

You know, when I was young my mum said that we should never mock the afflicted. I think she would make an exception in your case. Remember, we're laughing at you, not with you!

This was a good concert but i feel let down by the oasis,i was waiting for them to come on but they never did,as the headline states "Hat’s off as Simon wows Oasis fans",there was a lot of oasis fans there, and they all seemed pretty disapointed that liam and co did not preform and for 30 quid i was looking forward to it,but this bloke did come on and sing but i dont think he was that good, there was no apology from the oasis crew but i suppose when your that big you can do what you like,i think next time i go to see the oasis i will read the ticket information before i part with my money so i dont get ripped off.

He was fantastic, a great performer and was such a nice bloke, met him afterwards, got a few photos, signature & a kiss! Thinking about going to another of his gigs!

Well I must have been one of the luckiest people there. I was the GWR competition winner to meet Simon and see the concert. Like Mel, I had the pleasure along with my friend Michelle spending about 15 minutes on the couch chatting, get hugs and kisses, photos and signatures. He is fantastic guy, still grounded after all his succes, down to earth, honest and friendly. As for the concert - it was great and enjoyed every minute. Still overwhelmed at what a nice guy he is and will probably get to another concert.
